Both the gospels of Mark and Luke record that when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist the voice of God was heard to say "With you I am well pleased". Our baptisms are our acceptance of our responsible place into the body of Christ, a profound choice and moment to be sure. What a significant and life-altering understanding to know God is well pleased with us, as we are, as we have not earned that relationship. What a sacred moment to know we now participate in the very same life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Baptism is not a ticket to heaven but a mandate to bring heaven on earth.
